Out of the Woods
Rowanville is best known for its college of wizardry, housed in an ancient tower made of strange green stone. The tower’s builders left centuries ago, and lay dormant for a long time before a group of adventurous wizards decided to brave its secrets. Once they’d made it safe, they established the college and a new settlement, which they named Rowanville after the Rowan woods nearby. The college focuses on the training of new wizards, and so has a broad curriculum, but it does have a speciality in divination. Wizards who wish to specialise in other schools of magic usually go elsewhere, or head off adventuring to teach themselves through experience.
The current head of the school and senior tutor is Viola Ramkin, a conjurer. She has a small faculty working with her, many of whom have been at the school for much longer, but many are research wizards who appreciate the relative quiet of a small college. The faculty live in the tower itself, and many have rooms there for experimentation as well as teaching. Students are housed in a newer, long building, which also houses a lecture theatre and other student facilities.
The rest of the town includes all the usual industry and supplies, and it has a little farming, making it fairly self-sufficient. There’s also a smith, a temple (primarily to gods of magic), and an alchemist: Bartholomew Beetleburg.
